Description
This is a permanent, full-time position based on 30-35 hours per week. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Travel is required.
Shifts: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Services and Programs
- Conduct initial intake assessment to determine immediate needs and supports needed by the client.
- Provide emergency assistance services, i.e. food, clothing, household needs in accordance with policy
- Identify issues and trends and present recommendations for changes that will advocate and benefit the clients.
- Assist with food bank operations, ordering and/or receipt of food donations, recording, general cleanliness; organization.
- Assist in food sorting/food preparation for distribution to clients, watching for expiry dates on items
- Arrange for discarding of food bank items that are not usable in accordance with Salvation Army policy and Health Canada guidelines.
- Assist with the coordination/organization of annual fundraising efforts and/or special or seasonal programs as required, i.e. Food Drives, Toy Distribution, Christmas Kettle Campaign and various other programs etc.
- Assist with the coordination and pickup of food donations and/or non-monetary donations.
- Assist with camping programs – Moms n’ Tots, Adventure Camps, Bible Weeks.
- Assist with preparation, contacts, promotion of North of 55 monthly events.
- Assist with social media as requested.
- Network and refer to The Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program when necessary.
- May support, assist, supervise, train, schedule volunteers and demonstrate work methods in consultation with the supervisor; ensure they work together to achieve the purpose of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army.
Finance and Administration
- Ensure that Ministry Unit policies and procedures are followed for the safe/secure handling of all monetary donations received and appropriate documentation of gift cards and various vouchers is maintained, i.e. clothing vouchers.
- Receive donations and process temporary receipts as applicable and prepare and mail thank you letters.
- Maintain written records, logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information.
- Maintain accurate records of client information on Link 2 Feed Program while maintaining confidentiality and providing operational and statistical reports as needed.
- Greet visitors and answer phones as required, returning missed calls in a timely fashion
- Assist with the completion of all documentation required for Accreditation, Social Service Reviews, Program Inspections, etc. as they relate to Owen Sound Family Services, and ensure compliance as directed.
Vehicle/Maintenance
- Assist in maintaining safety, maintenance, operation of program vehicle, and records of the vehicle; work in compliance with CVOR regulations.
- Perform circle checks of the vehicle and maintain vehicle logs; fuel the vehicle as necessary and ensure that the vehicle is always kept clean and presentable.
- Report any vehicle mechanical failures or concerns to the Family Services Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Complete and maintain an accurate driver’s log.
- Maintain knowledge of legislative and company policies such as Health and Safety Regulations, provincial and Municipal Highway traffic acts.
Health and Safety
- Ensure that the food bank and area is maintained regarding appearance, condition and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Seek out continual education and resources for all areas of responsibilities, specifically regarding COVID-19 requirements as per the local Health Unit.
- Responsible for the disinfecting of personal high touch areas – i.e. desk, phone, keyboard, calculator, etc.
- Required to wear appropriate PPE which may include masks, gloves, face shields, etc., as per Public Health guidelines/recommendations. Immunization for COVID-19 may be required.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of the ministry unit by maintaining cleanliness and food safety etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of a Community College Diploma, Social Service Worker, counselling or equivalent in a related field of study.
- Safe Food Handlers Certification.
- First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Non-violent crisis intervention training.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle and insurance, provide an original copy of current driver’s abstract that it satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check
- Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience working with multi-barriered persons, individuals with mental health issues and a variety of social service programs.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products is required – i.e. Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.
- Ability to lean/utilize associated programs with network groups – i.e. Link2Feed, MyArmy.
- Knowledge of Community Based Resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
