Job Description
Refeed Canada (see https://refeedcanada.com) located at 7387 216TH STREET LANGLEY BC, V2Y 2S3 has a vacancy for a Farm Manager. ReFeed Farm is the first facility of its kind in Canada creating Circular Nutrition ™ from recovered produce and agri-food by-products. In partnership with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, ReFeed recovers fresh produce for redistribution back to food banks and non-profits, creates value add food products with extended shelf life, redistributes produce for livestock feed, operates a commercial worm farm creating sustainable protein and organic growing mediums and has over 200,000 sq/ft of greenhouse space to grow soil based organic produce for the local market.
Duties
- Develop, plan and organize greenhouse and nursery operations.
- Establish work schedules and staffing requirements.
- Annual Budget projections for all aspects of the operation.
- Supervise staff in planting, transplanting, feeding, and spraying using organic growing principles.
- Identify and control insect, disease and weed problems using organic growing principles.
- Develop and implement an annual soil-based crop plan, using regenerative and organic growing principles.
- Hire, train and manage all farm personnel.
- Develop and keep all financial and production records.
- Purchase inventories and needful supplies for the entire operation.
- Maintain machinery, equipment, structures and other nursery and greenhouse related infrastructure.
- Manage the bioconversion of feedstock into biomass and organic growing mediums in our worm farm.
- Manage the production of organic compost.
- Develop SOP’s for soil analyses and worm casting microbiology.
- Liaison with administrative and sales team to ensure production is hitting annual targets.
Experience Requirement
- Hands on organic or regenerative farming experience producing densified produce in soil-based greenhouses and high tunnels.
- A positive, can-do attitude and a drive to work quickly and efficiently.
- In depth understanding of permaculture.
- Hands on experience working on farming equipment, auxiliary equipment, and software for environmental controls in greenhouses.
- Vermiculture, vermicomposting experience a must.
- Experience in dehydration and drying of produce for commercial sale.
- Experience working with persons with disabilities and barriers to entry in the work force.
Wage and Benefits
- $30.00 per hour

Education
Degree in Agriculture related field.
