Campus Recreation offers students a wide range of programs and activities geared to all levels and abilities. Registered students receive a WSRC membership, funded through a small recreation fee within their activity fees.

Membership includes access to: group fitness classes, fitness centre, drop-in gym activities

Responsibilities

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading a range of safe and enjoyable fitness sessions. The incumbent will instruct clients using effective workout methods, explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises and provide exceptional customer service to clients. The incumbent may also provide fitness appraisals in accordance with policy and procedures as needed.

Qualifications:
Education:

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Related nationally recognized Fitness Instructor Certification (i.e. SFIC CCAA, Can Fit Pro, ACE, YMCA, etc)
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification or must be obtained prior to employment start date
  • For Sports and Rec Only – Current full time student at Western (enrolled in minimum 3.5 courses), and expect to retain full-time student status for the duration of this appointment preferred

Experience:

  • 5 years of related Fitness instruction experience

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, clients and the public
  • Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by telephone, in person or electronically
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve issues
  • Passion to work hard with a propensity to pursue goals with energy and persistence
  • Ability to teach and effectively lead a range of fitness classes and activities
  • Reliable with the consistent ability to work assigned shifts is paramount
