Description
The worker provide support to the daily running of Food Bank operations, organizing and maintaining the Food Bank operations in accordance with Salvation Army policy and procedure.
DAYS and HOURS of work:
15 hours per week, temporary contract position. Monday to Friday
Starting October 4th, 2021 until January 28th, 2022.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
ACCOUNTIBILITIES:
- Providing support to the daily organizing of the Food Bank
- Receive/decline Food Bank Donations
- Ensure the handling/sorting of all food donations in a timely and efficient manner
- Sort/stock food donations in a safe manner
- Weigh all food donations and ensure they are recorded appropriately
- Ensure the cleanliness of the Food Bank area
- Ensure Occupational Health and Safety is followed
- Check and record daily freezer temperatures
- Ensure all food is handled according to Saskatchewan Public Health Guidelines as indicated in Food handling guide
- Report any concerns to the Community Ministries Officer
- Appropriate disposal of cardboard on a daily basis
- Contact community partners for pick up/distribution of food (United Church, Drop in, Native Friendship Centre)
- Receives all non-monetary donations
- Actively involved in food drives, fundraising efforts
- Assign duties to food bank volunteers and Train volunteers in practical aspects of Food Bank operations
- Maintain records and information as required by CMO/DHQ/THQ
- Actively participates in meetings with Community Ministries Officer, inclusive of PEAC

MANAGERIAL/TECHINICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
- Reports directly to: Community Ministries Officer
- Direct reports for this position: Food Bank Volunteers
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Food bank donations
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Working environment is in the Food Bank
- Requires standing and lifting up to 30lbs
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends to meet program needs
- May be required to drive to locations for pickup and delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
· High School Diploma
Experience:
· One to Two years work Experience
- At least one year experience in volunteer management
· Understanding for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds
· Self-starter with strong motivation and determination for self and others
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn the standards, policies and procedures of The Salvation Army
· Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army – its mission, culture, and values
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organizational skills
· Ability to work with minimal supervision
· Ability to represent the local Salvation Army
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
- Provide RCMP Criminal Record Check
