This is supervisory work involving responsibility for planning, supervising and reviewing the work of subordinate foremen and crews engaged in parks, playground, sports, recreational area, grass maintenance and construction tasks in an assigned section of the City. An incumbent is responsible for planning, supervising and reviewing maintenance, construction and service activities and is responsible for the effective progress and completion of assigned projects and operations. Ensures safety regulations and precautions are observed and enforced; prepares and maintains work records and reports; orders supplies and equipment and estimates staff and material requirements for maintenance, repair and construction projects; participates in the preparation of budget estimates; prepares and maintains cost records relative to a variety of projects; monitors budget expenditures; reviews and signs employee time sheets; determines priorities within general guidelines established by a supervisor and ensures adherence to project schedules; inspects parks areas and facilities regularly; initiates repairs as required; processes routine requests and complaints from the public; participates in interviewing and selecting staff; and acts for the City in processing employee grievances and/or submits confidential reports in connection with grievances. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation supplemented by technical courses related to the work, plus considerable experience in parks operational and maintenance tasks, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, materials and equipment used in the layout, maintenance and construction of parks facilities, playgrounds, and recreational areas; of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work. Sound knowledge of the regulations, bylaws, objectives and policies applicable to the operation of the Parks Division. Ability to plan, review, and supervise the work of subordinate staff, including foreman, labourers, equipment operators and utility crews/contractors with economy and efficiency in the use of time, equipment and materials; to establish and maintain effective working relationships; to prepare related records and reports. Skill in the care and operation of tools and equipment utilized in the work supervised. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.

Work schedule:  Thursday to Monday; 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
