Applications are invited for a Lecturer position in the Faculty of Forestry in the Department of Wood Science at the University of British Columbia. This is a full-time appointment for an initial term of up to three years, including a probationary first year. Lecturer positions are appointments without review (i.e., non-tenure track), renewable for successive terms, subject to availability of funds and demonstration of excellence in teaching and service, in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2021.
Required Qualifications
A PhD is required and evidence of excellence and innovation inteaching are required for this appointment. Preference will be given to passionate and visionary candidates who show accomplishments or promise in the following areas:
Teaching of scholarly communication
Strong pedagogical approaches that support English as an Additional Language students
Teaching practice that incorporates diverse voices
Experience with curriculum development with an interdisciplinary focus
Experience or familiarity communicating scientific content relevant to the undergraduate and graduate students in the Faculty of Forestry
Position Details
Responsibilities will include an appropriate teaching load of sections of the following courses:
A second-year communication course – WOOD 225 Communication Strategies
A first-year foundational writing course – LFS/FRST 150 Scholarly Writing and Argumentation — to students in both Faculties
A graduate-level communication course – FRST 544 Technical Communication
Playing an integral role in the LFS/FRST 150, WOOD 225, and the FRST 544 teaching teams on both a visionary and practical level, helping to assess, adapt and build the curriculum to support student learning
In addition, the applicant is expected to contribute to the service within Wood Science.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. All appointments are subject to budgetary approval.
