        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Family Services Worker provides assistance to individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, The Salvation Army.

This position provides support to the Food Bank Program and other programs provided by Community and Family services.

We provide a high impact case management approach for specific client households. This approach focuses on identifying and addressing root causes for families living in poverty. We provide casework services through the Pathway to Hope (POH) utilizing a strengths-based approach to interview, assess, and formulate a plan of action to assist singles and families in moving from crisis to stability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community & Family Services:

  • Conduct initial intake application and screen clients for general emergency assistance, including food, clothing household needs, referrals etc.
  • Under the direction of the Community and Family Services Manager, assist with new and existing program and service provisions in the community
  • May network with referral agencies and/or other community sources of assistance, as required
  • Participation at community meetings/client referrals as directed by supervisor

Finance & Administration:

  • Input data into Link2Feed; complete and submit all statistical reports in a timely manner
  • Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate participant files and statistical records
  • Periodically review program assistance guidelines with supervisor
  • Conduct all administrative duties as outlined with due diligence
  • Follow direction on the compliance and adherence to Operating Policies and Procedures (i.e. gift cards, vouchers, etc.)

Seasonal:

  • Assist with seasonal activities provided by the Community and Family Services i.e.  Christmas Hampers, Christmas Kettles, Camp Programs; aid with other program development(s)
  • Distribute available items and donations to all participants requiring Christmas assistance

Health and Safety

  • Ensure that the Community & Family Services and Food Bank area is tidy in relation to appearance, condition and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
  • Seek out continual education and resources for all areas of responsibilities, specifically regarding COVID-19 requirements as per the local Health Unit.
  • Ensure the safety and comfort of the ministry unit by maintaining cleanliness and food safety etc.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
  • Performs other position related duties as required.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of a Community College Diploma, Social Service Worker, counselling or equivalent in a related field of study
  • Current Safe Food Handling certification is required
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification would be an asset
  • Possess a current first aid/CPR certificate
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience working with multi-barriered persons with mental health issues

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Problem solving, communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to work well in a team and independently without supervision
  • Be in agreement with and committed to the beliefs and mission of The Salvation Army
  • Demonstrate a healthy sense of boundaries, self-care and a positive attitude
  • Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Able to lift 30 lbs.

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 35 hours per week Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, some weekend and evening work may be required.
