        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

The Thrift Store Worker is primarily responsible to assist in the efficient and effective reclamation, processing or distribution of donated goods for the Bowmanville Thrift Store

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Protect the integrity of all donated items
  • Process raw materials by loading/unloading, sorting, packing, storing, loading and baling donations
  • Interact with customers/donors in a positive, friendly and courteous manner
  • Contribute to meeting store sales targets; provide efficient courteous customer service; use tact and courtesy when dealing with difficult donors/customers
  • Assist donors with their donations, unload donations, and place stock in appropriate warehouse locations
  • Select donations for store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded/recycled and good quality merchandise according to company standards; ensure that all products are priced correctly as per store policy
  • Categorize and box seasonal clothing, bric, shoes etc. for storing
  • Abide by store policy and procedures
  • Work with volunteers as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of Secondary School
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

Experience:

  • Have a minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience in warehouse processing or good distribution and knowledge of lifting guidelines.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Basic math skills required to calculate discounts and percentages as well as reading skills
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated/disciplined
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority
  • Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Brand awareness would be a definite asset
  • Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear criminal record check
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS:  will be scheduled as per the Thrift Store hours of operation Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable.  The hours of work and hours of operation are subject to review as required
