As the Head Sailing Instructor you are responsible for instruction in various levels of the CanSail curriculum of the Sail Canada program including development of skill base and knowledge in the activity area. This position is responsible to ensure that sailing programs operate within the guidelines established by the program supervisor. Primary duties include:
Teach specific skills to participants through progressive development based on CanSail program.
Adhere to standard curriculum and complete participant progress cards.
Use lesson plans provided by CanSail program with modifications as required.
Maintain program records and assist with program evaluation.
Support sailing instructors and volunteers by providing coaching and mentoring.
Provide safety expertise and ensure safety and well-being of participants.
Prepare and maintain of equipment, supplies and program space.
Populate, print, and distribute program information to customers.
Maintain high degree of customer service, respond to customer inquiries, and provide information to interested participants.
Qualifications
A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED).
At least 2 years of sailing instruction experience.
At least 1 year of related experience in program leadership.
Current Sail Canada CanSail 3/4 Coach.
Possess a Canadian Coast Guard Pleasure Craft Operators Card.
Hold a current Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level “C”, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications.
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Outlook, Excel).
Possess a clear Criminal Records Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search would be considered an asset. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months.
Previous training and knowledge of Physical Literacy will be considered and asset.
Demonstrated initiative, planning and organizational skills along with excellent oral communications skills and a positive representation of city recreation programs.
Ability to adapt to the changing needs of program and/or participants.
Possess sound judgment in safety standards.
Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt to changing needs of program and/or participants.
Pre-employment Requirements
Police Information Check or Security Clearance must be provided.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test:
An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
