        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

General upkeep of the facility and restocking washroom and cleaning supplies accordingly.  Strong organizational and initiative.

Accountabilities:

Sanitization of all hard surfaces, cleaning floors, dispose of trash, and clean and restock bathrooms.

  • Restock washroom supplies, distribute received material as required per floor
  • To be fully aware and familiar with Universal Precautions
  • Collect linens, following hazardous materials procedures
  • Redirect clients to appropriate Residential, Support and / or Overnight Workers

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

Internal: 

  • Provide suggestions to management as required and applicable that may improve efficiency, working conditions, and/or procedures
  • Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army and The Sudbury Cedar Place
  • Engage in formal evaluation sessions and supervision at 3 and 6 months during the first year of employment and annually thereafter

External:

  • Working understanding of hazardous materials and their disposal, communicable disease manual, and deep cleansing according to policy and the Local Sudbury Health Unit
  • Be familiar with the Ontario Health and Safety codes and standards

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

Once monthly inventory of supplies and ordering via Service Manager.

 WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to ascend/descent flights of stairs
  • Knowledge and use of best practice and know how to use Universal Precautions

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC) which includes Vulnerable population check
  • Become familiar with the provisions of the Position Description and Operational Manual which will be provided for the position
  • COVID Vaccination
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Non-Violent Crisis intervention training
  • Suitable written and oral skills
  • Familiarity of the Ontario health and Safety codes and standards

 

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience and general familiarity with cleaning procedures.
  • Experience with vulnerable and diverse populations an asset
  • Ability to use laundry appliances and fold bedding

 

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • The performance of the job requires operating cleaning equipment and tools such as:  steamer, mopping and sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, and fine motor skills
  • The incumbent is on occasion required to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally i.e. laundry, supplies

 

  • Spot wash walls/doors; vacuum or replace door and shower mats
  • Sanitization of bed, and all furniture contained therein upon guest departure
  • Responsible for facility laundry (linen, towels, kitchen and clean supplies)
