        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

Reporting to the Program Services Manager, the HRC Program Supervisor will oversee a range of housing and homelessness services to promote individual, family and community well-being, and to ensure that resources available to homeless people and people at risk of homelessness are obtained and are allocated in a coordinated and effective manner. Housing and homelessness services include, but are not limited to, providing emergency housing and basic needs, applying eviction prevention strategies, assisting persons to find and maintain safe and affordable housing, liaising with landlords to secure safe and affordable housing, acting as trustee of finances, delivering ongoing in-home and/or community-based support services to an assigned caseload. The Housing Resource Representative will be responsible for providing services to clients in Brantford and Brant County in a collaborative manner with other community partners.

 

The incumbent is responsible as a group/work leader. He/she is responsible for providing direction and checking results, but generally works along with those supervised. The incumbent supervises full-time, part-time, and/or casual/relief employees and may participate in the hiring, orientating, evaluating, and disciplining of staff.

 

This is a permanent, full-time position based on 40 hours per week. Schedule may vary due to the requirements of position responsibilities, which may include some work outside of regular schedule, particularly on some weekday evenings and weekends. This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and as such is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods and overtime compensation. Salary is based on average minimum weekly hours of 40 per week and hours worked are compensated through the annual salary amount. Local Travel is required.

Shifts: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Responsibilities:

  • Serve actively as a member of the management team for the Brantford Housing Resource Centre (HRC).
  • Provide oversight and supervision of Social Service Staff and the day-to-day operations in accordance with the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
  • Ensure that duties assigned are completed in an appropriate, safe, and efficient manner by the completion of their respective shifts.
  • Has input and may participate in the hiring, orientating, evaluating, and disciplining of staff.
  • During shift, provide support and supervision of staff and assist with crisis intervention, diffusing conflict and problem solving as required to ensure the safety of residents and staff; responds initially to resident
  • Responsible for completing the scheduling of staff to ensure coverage for all vacant shifts, including sick relief, stat, and vacation coverage.
  • Provide direction and support services to staff as required.
  • Monitor and check logs to ensure the completion of regular security
  • Provide statistical and evaluative information to management when
  • May provide back up support to and or assume functions at front desk area or other program areas as needed
  • Identify staff training requirements and make recommendations regarding staff development for those supervised.

 

Health and Safety:

  • Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations
  • Responsible to work in a manner as required by the employer and use the prescribed safety equipment
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, provide oversight to WSIB claims and other health and safety matters as required within applicable departments, including supervision of the Early and Safe Return to Work Program.
  • Ensure that proper procedures are followed in the event of a workplace injury or illness, conducting incident investigations when required.
  • Participate in all Health & Safety related accidents and injury investigations.
  • Perform other position related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completed an Undergraduate University degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience in supervision, leadership, coaching, and motivating staff and working with marginalized clientele.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead coach and motivate staff.
  • Effectively interact with managers and staff to create a work environment that is positive and mutually supportive.
  • Working knowledge of issues pertaining to homeless Individuals.
  • Experience and working knowledge of the Homeless Individuals and Families Information System.
  • Working in a non-profit and unionized environment is an asset.
  • Experience working with a diverse population and an ability to demonstrate a supportive, respectful, and non-judgmental approach to clients.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, when necessary, with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of and proven ability in linking with community resources.
  • Must have strong organization and planning skills.
  • Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Ability to lift/move 20 lbs.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification and CPR/First Aid Certification would be an asset or willing to obtain.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; ability to develop and maintain a team environment.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle and insurance required. Must provide an original copy of current driver’s abstract
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Support for and an understanding of mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
