Inclusion Alberta in partnership with post-secondary institutions across the province
offer Inclusive Post-Secondary Education supports to students with developmental
disabilities. Inclusive Post-Secondary Education provides students with developmental
disabilities the opportunity to pursue higher education in a field/ industry that aligns with
their individual career aspirations. In addition to academic participation, students with
developmental disabilities are a part of the innovative thread of student life at each
campus. The experience of being included in university or college creates a platform for
students to meaningfully participate in student clubs and events as well as community
groups related to hobbies or areas of interest. As students deepen their field-related
knowledge and experience, employment is a focal point for many students during the
academic year and summer months.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate meaningful student participation in a wide range of classes; for example,
help students prepare so they contribute to class discussions and coursework, help
students to participate in group work, etc.
- Facilitate relationships amongst classmates by helping students with intellectual
disabilities participate in a variety of learning activities, campus activities, events,
club, associations, etc.
- Support students contribute to and benefit from all aspects of campus and community
life
- Collaborate with faculty, post-secondary staff, and students’ families to support
students’ full engagement and active membership in their specified program of study
and community at large
- Provide support to faculty members and instructors to develop individualized course
expectations, academic modifications, and teaching adaptations to support student
learning, engagement, and relationships with classmates
- Network and collaborate with faculty members, business owners, managers,
employers, and other community members to develop job and career opportunities in
the students’ chosen field of study
- Support students, employers, and co-workers on job sites to ensure positive
employment experiences for everyone involved
- Strengthen and foster community capacity for meaningful inclusion of people with
intellectual disabilities
- Actively collaborate with and positively support Inclusion Alberta team members
- Regularly and actively engage in critical reflection and dialogue (both individually and
as a team member) about inclusion
- Effectively develop goals and strategic direction for inclusive post-secondary initiative
at the University of Alberta, Augustana Campus
- Provide personal care where required
- Thoughtfully and effectively support team members / colleagues
Qualifications:
We are seeking an individual who is committed to the inclusion of persons
with developmental disabilities in community life.
- Deep & abiding commitment to inclusion (as demonstrated by one’s experiences,
participation, and contributions to community)
- Experience with Inclusive Post-Secondary Education, and/or community
development and/or inclusion
- Exhibit the highest level of professionalism
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaborative, networking, and organizational
skills are required
- Dedicated learner, reflective practitioner, and committed to one’s professional
development
- Astute critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities
- Can work effectively both independently and collaboratively
- Can effectively manage stress and respond to difficult circumstances with grace
- Comfortable with public speaking and community development (approaching new
people)
Working Conditions:
This position will be located in the Camrose area. A vehicle is required with this position.
The position is permanent full-time, with a salary to commensurate with experience.
