Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace, invites applications for Instructor(s) in the Health Care Assistant program as outlined below. The appointment(s) will commence May 17, 2021 and end July 23, 2021. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor Scale.

Duties: The Instructors are responsible for contributing to the academic success of students by supervising and teaching a group of students in a clinical setting. This will include guiding and mentoring students through their clinical placements, modelling professional skills and work-related behaviour along with other functions related to instructing the following course:

HCAS 107: Healing 3 – Personal Care & Assistant (Lab 90 hours; April 8, 2019 to May 2, 2019)

HCAS 109: Practice Experience in Multi-level and/or Complex Care I (180 clinical hours; May 13, 2019 to June 13, 2019 Terrace View Lodge)

The appointment may include up to 60 hours for orientation, meetings, etc. for new instructors (May 17, 2021 – June 2, 2021).

Qualifications

Qualifications: Current registration with British Columbia’s College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM) as a LPN, RN, or RPN along with demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (i.e. completion of Provincial Instructors Diploma or equivalent education or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references or positive performance evaluations and student course evaluations).

Required experience includes a minimum of 2 years of full-time nursing experience with relevant knowledge of the Canadian health care system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members and current policies and procedures within residential community, acute care, and community care settings. Required nursing work experience includes experience in working with older adults with complex health needs; and experience or orientation in home support, multi-level/complex care and acute care. Clinical instructors must also meet the clinical practice requirements: current CPR certification, up to date immunizations. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with the local community placements.

The successful candidate will be adaptable, flexible and comfortable with change and technology, and have excellent organizational, interpersonal and collaborative skills.
