INVESTIGATOR

The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers is a regulatory body whose primary duty is to serve and protect the public interest. The College’s mandate is to regulate the practice of social work and the practice of social service work and to govern its members. This is a full-time position at the College. The successful candidate will report to the Investigations Manager and assist in managing and supporting the work of the College as it relates to the College’s statutory responsibilities in the areas of complaints, reports, discipline and fitness to practise. 

With the support and direction of the Investigations Manager, the successful candidate will:

  • Investigate and be responsible for case/project management of complaints/ reports from receipt/intake to consideration or hearing by the College’s Statutory Committees.
  • Provide staff support and act as a resource to Complaints, Discipline, Fitness to Practise and Executive Committees as required.
  • Liaise with and provide assistance to various stakeholders including members of the College, members of the public, legal counsel and Committee/Council members.
  • Effectively manage sensitive and complex issues in an objective and reasoned manner. Achieve results within established timelines and performance standards.
  • Participate in departmental/College projects/initiatives as required.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in a relevant discipline; Baccalaureate in law or health care an asset.
  • Several years of progressively senior experience in a regulatory or similar organization.
  • Knowledge of administrative law principles such as procedural fairness, transparency and confidentiality, as well as an understanding of legal process and professional regulation.
  • Strong investigative, research and information gathering skills.
  • An ability to manage and prioritize multiple cases and projects in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment; responding to changing and/or conflicting timelines or urgent matters as they arise.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to new business processes and strategies.
  • Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal; excellent written and oral communication skills for communicating with internal and external stakeholders; ability to synthesize complex information in a clear, concise manner; ability to present information in a factual and objective manner.
  • An understanding and advanced appreciation of the College’s regulatory mandate.
  • Good judgment with respect to processing and monitoring complaints/projects and ability to deal effectively with sensitive and complex issues combined.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Written and verbal French an asset.
  • Basic or Advanced NCIT Certificate an asset.
