        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Janitor will maintain the property in a clean and tidy state, as well as assist the Ministry Unit where required.

This is a part-time position at 12 hours per week, Wednesday – Friday, 10:30am to 2:30pm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support The Salvation Army mission and standards.
  • Treat all people with respect and caring.
  • Perform regular cleaning duties in and around the Army property, so as to maintain a high quality of cleanliness and appearance.
  • Perform regular minor maintenance around Army property.
  • Perform regular grounds maintenance as required. This will involve items such as snow removal, salt application, among other duties.
  • May provide appropriate instruction and supervision to volunteers, CSO’s (Community – Service Orders) and ensure appropriate standards and paperwork are followed.
  • Provide assistance to the Thrift Store with garbage removal, weekly cleaning, and other duties as needed.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a positive, professional manner.
  • Assist with ensuring proper security of Army property.
  • Maintain working knowledge of, and application of WHMIS and safe work procedures for all jobs and chemicals used. The Janitor is part of the Health & Safety committee.
  • Will be involved with food or other pickup duties.
  • May be involved with special events.
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education Level Attained:

  • Completed High School or equivalent.

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

  • MUST have Valid Driver’s license.
  • Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Up to three months of prior related experience, including previous cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures.
  • Understanding of working safely, and WHMIS, including universal precautions.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to represent The Salvation Army in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Comfortable working in a Christian environment with the ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and the purpose of The Salvation Army
  • Frequently operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, shoveling snow etc.
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized equipment and general cleaning.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced setting.
  • Duties require employee to work in the Fort Frances building/Thrift Store, as well as in the community and surrounding area.
  • Must be willing and available to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends.
