The University and Employment Preparation Department (Faculty of Education and Social Work) at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for a sessional faculty member to teach the multi-level Adult Basic Education course ENGL 0500/0600 in Lillooet in Fall 2021:
ENGL 0500 – Developing Writing Skills
ABE – Advanced: A basic writing skills course which covers mechanics, sentence structure, grammar and composition. The major modes of writing (description, narration, and exposition) are covered.
ENGL 0600 – Literature and Composition
ABE – Provincial: ENGL 0600 is a Provincial Level (Grade 12 equivalency) course which prepares students for the demands of compositions required in academic courses. It provides for further development of writing and thinking skills begun in earlier levels. Students work with a variety of rhetorical models for essay development. Also included is a critical analysis of selected works of prose and poetry.
• Master’s degree in a relevant field
• Teaching Certificate or Instructor’s Diploma
• Experience teaching adults
• Proven skills and experience working with learning technology platforms and tools
• Experience working with and within Indigenous communities
• Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63)
• Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62)
• Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10)
