Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Graduate Academic Services, and working closely with the Associate Chair, Graduate Operations, the Admissions & Recruitment Officer plays a lead role in ensuring admission operations and recruitment initiatives are aligned with the strategic goals of the Department of Computer Science within the highly competitive graduate education market. This position will work with faculty and key staff to identify opportunities to modernize admissions processes. We are looking for someone who has knowledge and experience in admissions best practices, is excited to develop new processes, and enjoys working with a variety of people. The successful candidate in this role, must be comfortable working with complex datasets to extract insights and produce comprehensive reports and possess the ability to analyze statistical information, track key metrics, present findings in a clear and concise manner, and represent the research-stream graduate programs in recruitment initiatives. In addition to being detail oriented, the successful candidate will also need to be able to look at the bigger picture to help the Graduate Office within the Department of Computer Science meet short and long term admissions targets.

Note: this is a 2-year term opportunity. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Determining logistical details required for the execution of admissions processes
  • Applying established standards when administering a process for consistent evaluation of applications
  • Advising potential applicants, students, parents, and/or guidance counselors on admissions criteria and processes by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences
  • Providing detailed information regarding financial awards
  • Analyzing statistical information to inform admissions projections and planning activities
  • Developing plans that support recruitment strategies
  • Researching potential target markets to inform recruitment plans
  • Delivering student recruitment presentations

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years of progressive related experience in a student admissions environment in a post-secondary institution.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing domestic and international graduate admission applications, assessing and advising prospective students on admissions and academic requirements.
  • Experience interpreting and applying the University and education systems worldwide admissions policies and requirements for graduate programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing processes and workflows for recruitment and admissions for graduate programs.
  • Familiarity with Slate, or similar admissions software, and databases. Demonstrated ability to learn new systems.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, survey tools and video conference platforms
  • Proven track record of effectively liaising with service providers to ensure organizational needs are met, including coordinating technical and administrative support, troubleshooting issues, and exploring customizations.
  • Superior computer and data skills, manipulating and analyzing data, and producing statistical information and data visualization for decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience developing content for and presenting compelling recruitment presentations, workshops, training sessions, orientations, etc. for internal and external audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), judgement, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong student service orientation: tact and diplomacy in dealing with students and students’ family members, maintaining confidentiality in working with student information.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines andrespond to changing work priorities quickly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of theories related to equity, diversity, and inclusion as they relate to admissions and student services.
  • Knowledge of best practices for promoting educational programs and engaging potential students.

USW Pay Band 12 — $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
