Your opportunity:

The Business Services Office is a dynamic team responsible for the Daniels Faculty’s financial administration, payroll administration, academic and general human resources, and procurement.

The incumbent joins a high performance team of professionals that share a strong culture of collaboration, respect and customer service. As part of the team, you will be responsible for a variety of task in financial and payroll administration. This includes, but not limited to review reimbursements, generate financial reports, process payroll and maintain HR records. The incumbent will also act as the first point of contact for faculty’s work study program.

This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto’s Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Forecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgets
  • Entering salary and/or personnel information in HRIS
  • Producing complex statistical and/or financial reports
  • Processing and reconciling payroll distribution
  • Preparing expense reimbursements
  • Liaising with internal contacts to resolve accounting, payroll and/or HRIS processing issues
  • Verifying that provisions of applicable collective agreements and/or policies are applied appropriately
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance/accounting or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum four years of recent payroll management experience in preparing, processing and reconciling payroll.
  • Demonstrated experience processing payroll transactions including maintaining salary and/or personnel information in HRIS.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management, including forecasting, planning, and monitoring budgets.
  • Experience in financial transactions such as journal entries, expense reimbursements, purchase requisitions, accounts payable and receivable.
  • Experience preparing or processing casual contracts, sessional lecturer and/or course instructor contracts.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving payroll discrepancies.
  • Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements.
  • Experience producing and analyzing complex statistical and/or financial reports
  • Knowledge and experience with University of Toronto’s Administrative Management System (AMS), including the Financial Information System (FIS) and Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and Research Information System (RIS), Kronos or similar systems.
  • High degree of proficiency with MS Office Suite with emphasis on Excel.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial management procedures, accounting principles and procedures, and an ability to accurately interpret and apply guidelines, procedures andregulations in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with the ability to professionally communicate complex financial and payroll procedures to administrative staff.
  • Excellent problem solving, decision-making and time management skills.
  • Solid planning, accounting, financial and analytical skills.
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, students, senior administration and external constituents
  • Ability to work independently as well as a collaborative team member in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Professional demeanor with a strong client service orientation.
  • Ability to work in a high volume environment that requires multi-tasking on varied duties and an ability to prioritize effectively and work under pressure.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: 

USW Pay Band 13 — $84,813. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $108,463. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
