Queen’s University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, Faculty of Education. The appointment, for an initial five-year term, begins July 1, 2025.
Since 1968, Queen’s Faculty of Education has been a leader in education. With three units – Teacher Education, Graduate Education, and Professional and Non-Credit Education – the Faculty’s mission is to develop progressive, ethical, and thoughtful leaders through teaching, research, and professional collaborations. Queen’s Education students explore and examine teaching and learning from a variety of perspectives across diverse contexts, while the Faculty’s research informs progressive changes and educational policies locally, nationally, and internationally. Queen’s Education is home to award-winning teachers, internationally recognized researchers, educational innovators, and community leaders.
The Dean of Education will be responsible for all aspects of the Faculty’s operations, including strategy, budget, human resources, external relations, and fund development. The Dean will be an educational leader who embraces the Faculty’s commitment to attract and educate a diverse faculty and student body that is, in turn, responsive to the diverse and evolving needs of Ontario’s and Canada’s education systems.
The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate and have a record of outstanding senior academic and administrative leadership in education or a related field in a top university. They should be able to demonstrate a robust track record of both research and teaching in relevant fields. They must bring a deep commitment to, and support of, excellence in research, teaching, service, and practice. The Dean will have a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and Indigeneity; a consultative, inclusive, and collegial leadership style; a natural service orientation; excellent communication skills; and an open and transparent approach that earns trust and respect from all members of the education community. Finally, the Dean will bring the credibility and leadership skills to be able to inspire the education community, both within Queen’s and throughout the province.
