Wealthsimple
Your career is an investment that grows over time!
Wealthsimple is on a mission to help everyone achieve financial freedom by reimagining what it means to manage your money. Using smart technology, we take financial services that are often confusing, opaque and expensive and make them transparent and low-cost for everyone. We’re the largest fintech company in Canada, with over 3 million users who trust us with more than $30 billion in assets.
Our teams ship often and make an impact with groundbreaking ideas. We’re looking for talented people who keep it simple and value collaboration and humility as we continue to create inclusive and high-performing teams where people can be inspired to do their best work.
The editorial arm of Wealthsimple is led by the former longtime editorial director of GQ magazine and staffed by media veterans. Our goal is to make sure everyone who wants to learn about finance can learn about finance. And we need your help to do that even better.
We are looking for an experienced finance writer to help us create interesting, unusual, and, most importantly, not-at-all-boring educational material. The role will involve adding fun and clarity to our library of educational articles. It’ll also include writing financial guides, 30-second animated explainers, interactive quizzes on tough topics like options strategies, market updates from company executives, and the occasional script for a video with a Canadian alt-rock icon.
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Be the front line as we ramp up our educational content, helping to improve existing franchises and establish new ones
- Revamp the educational articles in our Learn library so that they are clear, comprehensive, and entertaining
- Write market updates for our millions of clients, from the perspective of our executives and most trusted experts, on investing, trading, crypto, and more
- Own stories from concept to publication
- Make flowcharts! We do a loooooot of fun flowcharts (and other kinds of graphs and visual storytelling)
- Coordinate with teams across the company, including Product, Investment Research, Portfolio Management, and Marketing, to make sure the content we’re creating meets the needs of our business
- Work with the social team to translate educational topics into social-first content
- Work with the UX team to make in-app content from education pieces
Skills You Bring
- 5+ years experience as a writer (with at least one year of experience with financial content)
- Excellent writing abilities and an understanding of the world of finance
- The ability to explain things to people who don’t have a deep understanding of the world of finance
- Experience getting the information you need from subject-matter experts
- Ability to turn mediocre content into something so much better than what it needs to be
- Creativity — you’ll help push us into new territory
- An obsession with publishing the planet’s most interesting, useful, entertaining, and absolutely accurate money content
