Position Description

The McGill University Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is seeking applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Faculty Lecturer (Professional) to serve as the Director of the Clinical Partnership Office (CPO). The incumbent will also participate in the coordination of clinical courses in order to promote best practices in clinical education and bridge the gap between the operational processes related to the assignment of clinical course and the realities of the clinical pedagogical coordination, as well as gain insight into the clinical lived student experience. This will be a 3-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

Job Duties

Under the Direction of the Associate Director (Education) of the Ingram School of Nursing, the Director of CPO’s responsibilities include:

  • Assume overall responsibility the coordination of all operational aspects of student placement within the ISoN, including nurse-led clinics;
  • Update and implement the ISoN Clinical Partnership strategic plan and processes aligned with the educational mission of the School;
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and practices that align with ISoN and McGill University;
  • Develop and maintain a working group among the clinical course coordinators to ensure best practices in clinical teaching. Report arising issues with practices implemented by Clinical Instructors, Preceptor Supports, and Preceptors, if applicable;
  • Oversee and support the Clinical Partnership members in fulfilling their respective mandates;
  • Take part in the ISoN leadership group (IOC), to support and collaborate on operational dossiers that require decision making;
  • Engage with various external partners/organizations in discussions related to clinical education on provincial committees representing ISoN.

Responsibilities will also include coordinating or co-coordinating clinical course(s) between 3 to 8 credits per year. These courses are part of the Undergraduate and Graduate Curricula, and can be taught in large or small groups, and delivered online and on campus. More specifically, responsibilities include teaching, pedagogical assessment of the students, supporting Clinical Instructors, Preceptors and Preceptor Supports, onboarding of the Clinical Instructors and Preceptor Supports, revision of the course outlines and content. Faculty members are also expected to participate in the Entry-to-Practice curriculum revisions.

The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Minimum requirements for consideration are:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing with active membership with OIIQ;
  • Experience in coordination of clinical courses;
  • Leadership experience related to clinical education;
  • Management experience will be considered an asset;
  • Excellent verbal and written English and strong verbal and written French;
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills within a few years of appointment.
