port. Our mandate as a Canada Port Authority, as set out by the Canada Marine
Act, is to enable Canada’s trade objectives, ensuring goods are moved safely
and responsibly through the Port of Vancouver. That means providing
infrastructure and ensuring the safe and efficient movement of marine traffic
and cargo within the port. It also means we carry out reviews of proposed activities
and developments on federal port lands and waters to determine whether a
project can go ahead without impacts to the environment and community that
cannot be mitigated.

As the PayrollAssistant , your primary responsibility is to support the payroll function,
including production of the bi-weekly and monthly payroll, processing benefit
payments and remittances and secondarily, to support the payroll related
impacts from employee changes, compensation or general human resources
activities.

What youdo:

  • Perform and support full cycle payroll processing functions in anaccurate and timely manner, and deal with inquiries and resolve issues bycontacting appropriate internal and external customers, etc.

  • Ensure adherence to current legislation, internal payroll policies andcollective agreement provisions, and accounting principles and practices whilemaintaining complete and accurate payroll records.

  • Verify and review timesheets, ensuring accuracy and compliance withinternal policies and relevant labor laws.

  • Calculate wages, bonuses, overtime, and other payroll componentsincluding any retroactive or other payments.

  • Troubleshoot any payroll processing issues (e.g., creating new codes,wage and benefit tables updates).

  • Perform reconciliation of accounts and remittances, create and enterjournal vouchers, prepare month-end and year-end reports, and conduct allperiod-end responsibilities, as assigned.

  • Assist in preparing payroll reports, including year-end reports,payroll reconciliations, and payroll tax filings.

  • Ensure correctness and completeness of data transfer to and from other systemsand communicates issues with the appropriate departments.

  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements, asrequired.

  • Stay up to date with payroll regulations, tax laws, and industry bestpractices to ensure compliance.

What you bring:

  • Youhave completed the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification from theNational Payroll Institute or have completed one (1) year of part time studiesin Accounting or Finance from a recognized technical institution or college.

  • Youwill possess a minimum of two (2) years of related experience in a computerizedpayroll system, preferably in a unionized environment, and have experienceprocessing in-house payroll.

  • Youwill have excellent computer skills in spreadsheet applications (Excel) andword processing applications (Word).

  • Youare a customer-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal andcommunication skills.

  • Youare a team player with the ability to work effectively and positively with bothstaff and outside contacts.

  • Youare highly analytical, with excellent organizational and problem-solvingskills, with the flexibility to adapt and respond to changing workloads and priorities.

  • Youpossess strong numerical skills, excellent attention to detail, the ability tohandle sensitive information confidentiality and the ability to thinkanalytically while troubleshooting.
