Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Plastics Production Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Seibi Technician with experience in plastics injection mold maintenance and repair

The primary responsibility of this role is to support Plastics PE analysts in development and confirmation of new model plastic shop molds and equipment processes to ensure Key Process Indicators (KPIs) are achieved prior to the North American Manufacturing Centers hand-over milestone.

The candidate must have experience in the following:

  • Mold spotting (cavity, core; lifters, slides, inserts etc; fix minor defects on molds such as flash on plastic parts)

  • Plastic injection mold welding to perform minor repairs or implement minor part design changes

  • General mold maintenance, mold cleaning, mold preparation after long storage

  • Mold finishing

  • Mold sand blasting preparation

  • Mold disassembly

  • Ability to read 2D engineering drawings

  • General machining (turning, milling, drilling, grinding, tapping etc) and welding

  • Ability to use measurement calipers and gages correctly

  • Working in a collaborative team environment

  • Be able to use and navigate around MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, SharePoint

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the Plastics Production Engineering department’s objective to launch high quality new model plastic components to the North American Manufacturing Centers.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing hands-on support of major and minor model molds and equipment preparation+trials at Woodstock and Cambridge plants

  • Identifying mold and equipment problems and implementing countermeasures

  • Leading installation activities related to interior/exterior plastics equipment/processes, robot teaching, trial support, coordinating trial activities, and assisting NAMC’s as needed

  • Assisting in specification reviews/vendor trials for new process equipment

  • Support engineering analyst in mold level-up plan for part quality improvements.

  • Support engineering, manufacturing activities, and reporting

  • Support part accuracy confirmation by Faro scanning on check fixture

  • Data collection on check sheets and analysis

  • Perform “hands-on” Seibi tasks as needed to complete work objectives

  • Travel to mold vendors to confirm mold level ups and Engineering Changes (ECIs) before mold ship back to TMMC

  • Depending on project needs, travel is required for this role at other sites in USA, Canada and Mexico – 50%

What you bring

  • 5+ years experience of plastics mold maintenance

  • 5+ years experience in injection molding equipment/tooling

  • Able to travel up to 50%, and able to travel international (Canada, Japan, etc.)

  • Able to work on weekends and long weekends

  • T/D Journeyman or skilled team member/team leader experience

What you may bring

  • 5+ years experience in new model launch at NAMC’s or new product launches at automotive suppliers

  • Minimum of five years automotive experience

  • Experience in Toyopuc programming

  • 3+ years experience PLC programming and/or robot teaching

  • 3+ years experience installing new equipment/processes

  • 5+ years of plastics injection processing

  • 25T plus overhead crane operation

  • Hot runner troubleshooting

  • Mold auto-coupler troubleshooting

  • Take out device troubleshooting

  • Passion to learn all of the above if opportunities come along
