Job Summary

  • Provides coordination, clerical and administrative support to the health care team on patient care units. Maintains a customer focused approach establishing effective communication between the health care team and the patient, family/significant other.

Responsibilities

  • Communication – Demonstrates the ability to process and interface appropriate information between the health care team and the patient, family/significant other to ensure quality patient outcomes.
  • Secretarial – Maintains the flow of telephone communication through appropriate information gathering and relay.
  • Documentation – Appropriately transcribes MD orders and pertinent patient information.
  • Reception Services – Greets and directs all customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Scheduling Patients – Appropriately schedules patients for all needed services.
  • Forms Management – Maintains knowledge of general Hospital and unit specific forms, ensuring adequate supplies are available at all times. Maintains daily logs and/or renewals for patient updates. i.e. DNR, Fall risk, etc.
  • Unit Specific Competencies – See attached.
  • Maintains all components of chart, i.e., thins, fills, inserts, labs, etc.
  • Acts as preceptor for all orienting and new unit coordinator (secretary).
  • Ensures that the documentation for admission, transfer and discharge processes are completed.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • EXPERIENCE
  • Additional training or education in the health care/medical terminology field desirable. Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education/experience.
  • Other:
  • Computer experience required.

Physical Requirements

  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
  • Close eye work. Manual dexterity and mobility. Moderate work (lifting, moving, loading 15-30 lbs.). Mostly sedentary work. Occasional standing/walking.
