Veterinary Technician
Location: Ottawa, ON

Alta Vista Animal Hospital has an opportunity for a dedicated, experienced Anesthesia Veterinary Technician (VT) to join our amazing Specialty Departments. The successful candidate will be a believer in the possibilities of high quality veterinary medicine and patient care—with the expertise and technical know-how to make them happen. In this position you will be supporting our Doctors and Support teams by creating a positive, low-stress atmosphere for our clients and patients.
The Anesthesia Veterinary Technician (Specialty) is a full-time permanent position.
Responsibilities will include:

Performing initial examinations.

Taking vital signs, drawing blood and gathering medical histories.

Collecting specimens.
-
Assisting in research.
-
Performing laboratory procedures.
-
Preparing patients and equipment for surgical procedures.

Experience with anesthetic delivery, support, and monitoring equipment

Assist during procedures
-
Taking and processing x-rays.
-
Performs accurate and consistent inventory, cleaning, and, maintenance procedures of surgical materials, equipment, and clinical area

Ability to calculate drug doses and administer medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, and/or orally

Understanding and experience with routine repair and maintaining anesthesia related equipment

Engaging with client to answer any questions or concerns
Required Qualifications:

Registered Veterinary Technician or Non Registered with anesthesia experience an asset

Fluent in English (Reading, Writing and Oral)
-
Able to support patients up to 50kg and lift up to 25kg.

Asset would be direct experience within the specialty veterinary environment.

Who is Alta Vista Animal Hospital
Located in Ottawa, ON., Alta Vista Animal Hospital is a growing multidisciplinary hybrid hospital with Referral, Emergency, and General Practice services all under the same roof. Our board-certified specialists provide care in ophthalmology, cardiology, oncology, and Internal Medicine and have access to on-site MRI and CT diagnostics. With a dedicated staff of 160, including 30 veterinarians, we offer excellence in veterinary medicine because we are passionate about what we do!
We are located at 2616 Bank Street, 20 minutes south of the vibrant downtown Ottawa Market and operate out of a 24,500 square foot facility. We have a large referring veterinarian community of over 300 General practice and Emergency hospitals. A full suite of on-site diagnostic imaging includes a Toshiba Aquilion 64 slice CT, .25T Vet MR MRI, Pulsera Fluoroscopy unit, Philips ultrasound and echocardiogram and two Sound digital radiograph suites.
