Description
HOURS:
- Part-time 5+ and Part-time 15+ hours per week August 26th, 2021 to June 30th.
- Temporary Contract with Possibility of extension to full time during summer months
- Monday to Thursday 2:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., Fridays – 2:30 to 9 p.m. or Pro-D days 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sundays 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.- **Approximate Schedule, may be adjusted as needed with discussion
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides input in planning and assists with the implementation of appropriate age-based activities according to skill and learning levels that promote social interaction and personal development
- May assist in orientating new children and families; provides ongoing feedback on child’s development and behavior
- Ensures that all information about children, family, staff, visitors, and volunteers are strictly confidential; and that activity records and statistics are confidentially secured
- Assists with effective risk management; monitoring food safety, medication storage/disbursement, allergies, facility cleanliness/maintenance; provide emergency first aid and completes, reports and files incident reports as required
- Role models appropriate behaviors and attitudes supporting growth and promoting change for the child and family
- Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example
- Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with children and families, endeavoring to assimilate them into the Body of Christ, as opportunity presents (including linking families to the church family and church programs where possible)
- May provide transportation for children to/from school or field trip sites
- Works with the Supervisor to ensure that programs meet contractual, legal, and internal accreditation requirements; ensures full compliance with child protection legislation and intervene when necessary
- Works with Supervisor to plan programs and other administrative duties as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:
- Responsible adult certificate in place or a willingness to acquire it before employment
- First aid an asset
- Food safe an asset
- The successful job applicant will have completed High School or equivalent, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.
- Driver’s license preferred
Experience:
- At least 1-year previous relevant experience with children
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Individual, who is committed to the mission of the Salvation Army and is willing and able to work within the Salvation Army doctrine and theology
- Possesses valid First Aid/CPR certificate or obtains as a condition of employment prior to the end of probationary period.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with children’s assessment of needs and in making appropriate recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to compassionately apply policy and procedures in stressful situations.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of theory, principles, and practices specified in the child development field.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Non-violent Food Safe, or the willingness to be trained
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry
- Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Program
- Successful obtainment of Enhanced Reliability Status Security Clearance
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- Clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
