Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in preparing lesson plans with clear objectives that follow Ontario curriculum standards and beyond
Assist in preparing range plan, unit plans and homework materials
Assist in teaching a full range of subject areas, including English (reading, writing and oral communication), Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Studies, and Islamic Education
Supervise students during classes and at other times during school day, including breaks
Attend staff meetings
Discuss students’ progress and concerns with parents and administrators
Prepare for and attend parent-teacher interviews and other functions including extracurricular activities
Maintain appropriate standards of behaviour, mutual respect, and safety within classroom
Formal and informal ongoing assessment of students, including report cards, progress reports and marking
Integrate social responsibility and kindness into daily teaching and routines
Organize the classroom and learning resources and create displays to encourage a positive learning environment
Assist in planning, preparing and present differentiated lessons that cater the needs of the whole ability range within their class
Motivate students with enthusiastic, imaginative class activities
Assist in preparing, marking and providing feedback to facilitate positive student development
Work collaboratively with others to plan and coordinate work
Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Teachers’ College certification is an asset
Minimum 1-2 years teaching experience
Friendly, nurturing, attentive and respectful characteristics
Fluency in both spoken and written English
Good presentation, communication, interpersonal and pragmatic skills
Exhibits self-motivation, high work standards and attention to detail
