        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

Assists, at the cook’s direction, the prepping and serving of meals. Food Bank intake relief when needed and processing of daily food donations.  Ensures the food preparation areas and dining room are clean and hygienic, all foodstuffs are stored safely, and all food handling techniques are followed.

HOURS:

  • Full-time / Permanent
  • 30 hours/week (Monday to Friday, 9.00 a.m.-3.30 p.m.)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Meal Program Supervisor with food preparation (breakfast and lunch, Mon-Fri).
  • Serve breakfast and lunch to clients.
  • Clean/sanitize up serving counters, tables, chairs in the dining hall during and after serving according to Covid sanitation regulations as it slows with the guests.
  • Wash dishes after breakfast and set up immediately for lunch; wash dishes after lunch.
  • Assist in the organization, maintenance, and general cleanliness of the Meal Centre, Food Bank and Share Shelf area, Food Bank.
  • Process daily food donations from loop program (Save-On-Foods), Freshco, Walmart, and RCWC.
  • Sort food donations and dispose of products that are not suitable for human consumption.
  • Arrange for discarding of items that are not usable.
  • Organize the food on the shelves and fridges; organize freezer; keep attention to produce expiration date.
  • Break down boxes, take out recycle as needed.
  • Rotate meat in stand-up freezer as well as walk-in fridge.
  • Assist truck driver with weight as needed (includes heavy lifting up to 40 lbs.).
  • In the absence of the Meal Program Supervisor fill in the role with Meal Program and cover Food Bank intake that there is no interruption in services.
  • Serve clients on the share shelf.
  • Stock shelves in between clients and prepare hampers (includes heavy lifting up to 40 lbs.).
  • Provide emergency food hampers as directed by Community Program Coordinator.
  • May assist in the maintenance of client files and statistical records.
  • May direct work of volunteers assisting in Food Bank & Share Shelf.
  • Professionally represent The Salvation Army.
  • By presenting a clean and tidy appearance, including good grooming and the wearing of appropriate clothing.
  • Demonstrate empathy and concern for clients/families/volunteers.
  • All contacts with donors, the general public, and other employees are to be courteous and professional.
  • Complete a timesheet each day and hand it to the supervisor at the end of the pay period.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma; successful completion of a recognized certificate in cooking and/or meal prep a strong asset.
  • Valid Food Safe certificate.

Experience:

  • Less than 2 years of recent experience working in a professional kitchen setting preferably serving a marginalized/vulnerable population.
  • Knowledge and proven ability to carry out basic cooking techniques

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a very high-paced environment.

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
