Hiring Unit:

Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Research Centre

Position Summary:

Assists in performing laboratory tests: staining of histology slides Tissue Processing and embedding, slide labeling, tissue handling, using the Vip Tissue Tek tissue processor, slide labeler, Leica embedding station and automated stainer. The candidate will learn a variety of laboratory techniques and to use a variety of lab equipment, e.g. PH meters, pipettors, etc .

Catalogs laboratory material and or equipment: maintains laboratory supplies such as chemical and alcohol, advises supervisor to reorder. Cleans and maintains tissue processor, embedder and stainer etc.. .

Collects and enters data into established inventory databases : Histology database. Updates manuals/data sheets as required eg; My Lab chemical inventory.

Distributes and tracks items such as: clients histology requests. A log to track these items may be required; will ensure compliance with safety regulations in use of equipment, storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

Maintains lab work area in a clean and orderly fashion: glass washing, records and files as well as answering the phone, responding to clients and general maintenance of laboratory.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Previous experience in a laboratory is an asset, must be meticulous, accurate and autonomous in the execution of tasks. Team, spirit, initiative, good judgment and keen organizations skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word is essential, knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel is an asset. Good communication skill.
