The Department of Biochemistry is a dynamic community of 70 faculty, 150 graduate students and 450 undergraduate students. Our research touches on fundamental questions on basic mechanisms of living systems as well as the discovery of new therapeutics against infection, cancer and neurodegenerative disease. As Laboratory Technician, you will support the Stagljar lab, focusing primarily on mammalian cell line research. Relying on your strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology, you will work closely with Professor Stagljar and members of our project team to help advance our mission and research.

Your responsibilities will include:
Applying established standards when preparing routine samples for experiments and research projects

Performing cloning into lentiviral vectors

Maintaining mammalian cell lines

Preparing samples for deep sequencing

Collecting experimental data, verifying results and passing on findings

Providing orientation to others on work procedures and practices

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science (B.Sc.) in relevant science field, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum one year relevant experience in a molecular biology or biochemistry lab

Demonstrated experience with mammalian cell culture

Experience with gene manipulation of DNA via CRISPR, cloning

Experience with flow cytometry and cell sorting by FACS

Experience maintaining laboratory records, and collecting, maintaining and verifying laboratory results

Strong oral and written communication skills

Eexcellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills; and ability to exercise sound judgment

Experience maintaining shared laboratory spaces and equipment, including tissue culture

Ability to work under pressure with scientific deadlines

Ability to work with a diverse group of colleagues

Excellent manual dexterity required

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 06 – $48,650 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $62,214. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
