Your opportunity:

The Centre for International Experience (CIE), within the Division of Student Life and the Office of Vice President International, provides students opportunities so they can expand their learning into the global arena. CIE enables students to expand their world to gain a global advantage. We work with students, academic units, local and global community to create sustainable and diverse learning abroad experiences that incorporate study, research and professional opportunities. We work in partnership with faculties and services to enable students new to Canada to maximize their time at U of T to meet their goals and aspirations on graduation. Finally, we work to build global learning opportunities on campus – curricular, co-curricular and experiential.

Under the general direction of the Director, Learning and Safety Abroad, the Learning Abroad Advisor & Manager will focus on study, research, professional experiences. These include but are not limited to global classrooms, for in-person, hybrid and fully virtual learning abroad experiences.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on co-curricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual’s background
  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Promoting experiential learning opportunities
  • Reviewing and assessing student applications for admission into the program
  • Preparing detailed analysis of risk factors to inform planning decisions for international travel
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Conducting detailed analysis on program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
  • Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees all performing a similar function


Qualifications:


Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in a relevant discipline or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years related experience in international education, partnerships, student development and advising.
  • Experience working with a diversity of international stakeholders and developing new programs.
  • Proven experience in working in flexible environments and in dealing with uncertainty.
  • Experience working with faculty, staff and students in a university setting, including highest level officials.
  • Experience in project development and management.
  • Computer software including advanced Excel and use of web-based interfaces and databases.
  • Proven ability in student advising and coaching.


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Knowledge of the summer experience in the international higher education landscape.
  • Knowledge of an additional language.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 14 – $78,618 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $100,542. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
