Description
This is a temporary, full-time position based upon 40 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break.
Shifts: Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Start Date: June 28, 2021
End Date: September 3,2021

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Services:
- Maintain constant surveillance of the participants in the facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure everyone’s safety in the event of emergency.
- Provide first aid treatment as required.
- Present professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain a high standard of customer service; responds to participant questions and concerns in a friendly manner.
- Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
- Inspect the pool area and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Program Director of the Child Care Centre or Property Manager.
- Complete testing of pool chemicals and remedies any infractions.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate and necessary activity reports.
- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
- Responsible for pool closures when required.
- When the pool is not in use will support other Village programs (Child Care, Adult Day Program, Respite)
- Attend any community outings with the summer programs as requested.
- Communication/Administration:
- Ability to prepare routine administration paperwork.
- Attend any visits/inspections by the Middlesex London Public Health Inspectors.
- Communicate non-compliance issues from Inspection Reports with the Property Manager/Program Director of the Child Care Centre.
- Report any identified needs to team members, Child Care Program Director/Property Manager or designate.
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:
- This position reports directly to the Child Care Program Director/Property Manager or designate.
- Responsible for the organization and maintenance of pool supplies/equipment.
- Uphold all Salvation Army policies, directives, and operating guidelines as contained in the Policy Manual of The Salvation Army London Village.
- To work within the legal standards of the Middlesex London Public Health.
- Attendance at scheduled staff meeting preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completed Secondary School.
- Current National Life Guard Service Certification.
- Current First Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of six (6) months of prior work experience as a lifeguard.
- Experience working with seniors, children, and individuals with special needs is an asset.
- Current Safe Food Handling Certification.
- Knowledge of pool operations and current guarding techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of water chemistry, filtration and recreation facility maintenance.

- Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
- Ensure that all certifications are maintained as required.
- Represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner.
- Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures and associated legislation.
- Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority.
- Self-motivated/disciplined.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.

- Fluent French verbal and written communication skills are an asset.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured
either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
