The Maintenance Worker undertakes the general care and maintenance for the facility, building systems, security, monitoring systems and grounds and ensures government regulations are achieved.
35 hours/week – 8:00 am to 3:30 pm
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:
- Repairs and if required, install plumbing fixtures such as taps, sinks, and toilets.
- Where possible, performs mechanical and electrical repairs to equipment such as kitchen equipment, clothes washers
and dryers, dishwashers, light fixtures, etc. - Where applicable, performs plastering, painting, and decorating for repairs.
- Ensures that maintenance materials are purchased or received, stored, and redistributed as necessary.
- Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment, recommends repairs and
purchases as required. - Monitors and adjusts heating, temperature controls for facility and water, ventilating and air conditioning systems by operating the facility’s control systems.
- Ensures the maintenance of the building exterior and grounds as appropriate.
- Maintains a safe living and working environment through compliance with policies and procedures, rules and regulations governing facility safety and safety in the workplace.
- Contact various trades’ people for various contracts/quotes as required.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools.
- Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
- Plan and lay out repair work using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals.
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
- Record maintenance and repair work performed using applicable forms.
- Prioritize work load using maintenance request forms.
- Reproduce keys using key cutting machine.
- Supervises volunteers and community service orders
- Monitors the inventory of Booth Centre tools and equipment and ensures that it is kept current; ensures that the annual inventory check is conducted
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
The successful job applicant will have Grade 12 or equivalent or three years’ experience in a related environment
Experience:
The incumbent must have three years’ experience in a related environment or be willing to be trained on site by supervisor in general repairs in Carpentry, Drywall, Electrical & Plumbing etc. as well as building systems, fire safety, water treatment, electrical systems, supervisory, statistics and reading legislation experience.
Various practical and related trade experiences would be an asset.

NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable at the discretion of the Executive Director.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Demonstrated skills and experience of the following areas: electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance.
- Physical stamina and flexibility, and ability to work in adverse conditions.
- A strong sense of initiative and responsibility in working alone.
- Problem solving and decision making skills.
- Desire to work among a diverse group of people.
