Description
The Manager, Finance & Information Technology will lead all day-to-day finance operations including direct responsibility over corporate accounting, investment and trust accounting, and information technology software and networks.
The Manager, Finance & Information Technology will ensure that the company has the systems and procedures in place to support organizational growth as well as effective program implementation to conduct clean audits in accordance with Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit organizations.
The Manager, Finance & Information Technology will oversee the finance and administration support team (including reception), with responsibility for task assignments, scheduling, recruitment/terminations, performance management, based on established budget constraints and HR corporate policies.
In addition, this position will engage with external IT experts to support and protect our information technology systems, including SAGE system management, Goldmine Database System, SRS accounting integration functions, system-wide back up & restore functions, and telecommunications management.
Major Tasks:
- Lead accounting functions to ensure accurate record-keeping, reporting, and compliance with NFP Accounting Standards through the oversight and support of the Finance Officer in daily accounting activities
- Prepare audit-ready year end financial statements and related documentation for the external auditors based on established timelines and in collaboration with the CEO and Board Finance Committee
- Prepare annual reporting for Bereavement Authority of Ontario and related government oversight documents in collaboration with applicable divisional managers
- Responsible for the timely preparation, review and finalization of monthly financial reports and year-end closing activities
- Ensure proper internal controls are in place, including the preparation and maintenance of good accounting policies and procedures to ensure continuity and consistency in all key areas of responsibility and recommend changes as needed, in consultation with the CEO and Board Finance Committee
- Lead in the building and maintaining of a secure, efficient information technology system with respect to financial applications and software solutions
- Hold the position of Privacy Officer, and in collaboration with the CEO, ensure adequate actions, documentation and resolution whenever privacy breaches/concerns/requests arise
- Maintain financial forecasting tools for critical organizational decisions in conjunction with CEO and Board
- In collaboration with the management team, prepare annual budgets, including amendments and revisions to support the annual business plan and strategic plan
- Maintain current knowledge of accounting standards as well as NFP practices; remain current on changes to government policies and regulations
- In collaboration with the CEO, conduct regular reviews of banking and insurance programs to ensure competitive pricing and emerging business needs are well managed.
- Develop and mentor team members and direct reports in line with department growth plan
- Partner across organization on reporting, process and communication with teams including Legal, Human Resources, and Information Technology
- Work with staff at all levels throughout the organization to help in creation of a positive and supportive work environment
- Miscellaneous other duties as assigned
Accountability:
The Manager, Finance & Information Technology reports to the President/CEO and will work closely with the management team, Board Finance Committee and staff, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can enhance operations. The Manager, Finance & Information Technology will also help the team in planning, evaluating, and problem solving related to financial operations to maintain a cohesive, skilled, agile and professional department.
Knowledge and Experience Required:
- Minimum of 5+ years corporate and/or public accounting required
- CPA designation (or within 12 months of hire) required
- Non Profit Accounting Experience preferred
- Supervisory skills: 3- 5 years (Required)
- Superior computer skills, including SAGE (Sage 300 preferred) or similar accounting software
