Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, Planning and Logistics, the Manager, Fire Business Services manages the optimization and maintenance of Fire’s business services for financial, supply chain, and communications activities. The incumbent leads Fire’s strategic planning activities which includes business planning, budgeting, and performance measuring; manages the clerical team; reviews, recommends, and implements business services optimizations and automations; participates as a member of the management team; manages and facilitates special projects; and serves as an advisor to the Fire Chief and Deputy Chiefs through analyzing issues and making recommendations for policy and confidential matters. The Manager, Fire Business Services also provides supervision, direction, and guidance to staff members including recruitment, performance management, training, and coaching; conducts investigations and administers discipline; represents the department at grievance hearings, arbitrations and labour management meetings. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include a diploma in business administration, public administration, or a related discipline and 10 years of related experience in business services administrative management and staff supervision, or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. This role also requires extensive knowledge of fire department specific business applications and processes, including FDM, Telestaff, CAD, SAP, Fire Document Search, and PIPMS. The Manager, Fire Business Services possess the ability to manage, direct, and oversee the work of staff directly and through a subordinate supervisor, and to train, mentor, and review the work of same; handle difficult and contentious inquiries and problems with tact and authority; liaise with and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; and communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
