In alignment with Mohawk College’s mission and values, and Strategic Plan, the incumbent works collaboratively with other members of the Director’s team (Student Success Advising, Student and Graduate Employment, and Testing Centre); the Director, Wellness Initiative Teams (Counselling, Accessible Learning Services, etc.), Student Rights and Responsibilities Office, Student Life, Athletics and Recreation, Dean of Students’ office and other Student Services broadly. The incumbent also liaises with each Academic unit to ensure peer academic support is in line with faculty need. The incumbent is expected to build strong relationships and enhance the coordination of support to foster student success.
Operationally, the incumbent is responsible for the creation of a strong staff team and ensure high quality service delivery. This includes an emphasis on supporting the development and success of campus partnerships, and continuous improvement through service assessment and evaluation.
Administratively, the incumbent has budget monitoring responsibilities, is expected to manage part-time staff and student staff contracts, and produce regular reports on operational, assessment, and strategic initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
Program and Service Delivery
Evaluates and recommends peer-based academic support programs and services, including but not limited to, Peer Tutoring, Peer Assisted Study Sessions, Writing Centre, Math Learning Centre to support student success and retention on all campuses.
Uses in-depth knowledge and understanding of adult learning principles and academic skill development to design and deliver peer academic support building programs and resources that meet the diverse needs of students, both face-to-face and on line current/leading edge practices within the fields of learning support and student affairs.
Oversees the operation of the main Learning Support Centre space at Fennell Campus, in addition to the peer academic support provided at Stoney Creek and IAHS campuses.
Operations Management
Programs – Supervises program and service delivery in the Learning Support Centre to ensure strong communication and collaboration among service providers and stakeholders.
Space – Oversees scheduling and usage of staff and student space – both bookable space and common spaces as per operational guidelines, which ensures optimal student use is priority.
Staff – Hires, trains and supervises support staff and student staff, using best practices in Human Resources, mentorship and professional development.
Budget – Oversees staff and program budgets as delegated by the Director, Student Success Initiatives.
Data tracking and reporting – continuously tracks and reports on service use, student learning outcomes, and similar student success metrics.
Communications – Ensures that activities and services are consistently presented with a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders to supports the reputation and exposure of Mohawk College.
External Stakeholder Partnerships & Initiatives
Working with Student Life, supporting the development of student success content, such as Keys to Success, to be utilized by all incoming Mohawk students, embedded within the Future Ready Orientation program.
Liaise with key Student Services contacts to create new partnerships, enhancing the reach of Learning Support Centre services
Engage with members of the Academic units each term, providing opportunities to seek feedback on programs and services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant will have:
At minimum, candidates must have a four year degree plus a post-graduate credential in Education, Adult Learning and Development, Student Affairs/Services, College Student Personnel, or Career Development. Preference will be given to candidates with increasing levels of education. A Master’s Degree is strongly preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership experience in a post-secondary educational setting, specifically within student services, continuing education, peer-to-peer student leadership programs, and/or student government.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
The following knowledge, skills and experiences should be well developed:
Operational Leadership – proven ability to supervise a team, and oversee operations and budgets;
Student & Adult Learning and Development – a demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and adult learning and development theories, approaches and best practices;
Peer-to-Peer & Student Leadership Administration – a demonstrated working knowledge of student leadership administration theories, approaches and best practices;
Event Planning / Project Management – demonstrated experience coordinating workshops, events and managing projects;
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion – Demonstrated experience in working with and supporting a diverse student/client population.
Assessment and Evaluation – a working knowledge of assessment and program evaluation best practices would be an asset.
