Your opportunity:
The Critical Digital Humanities Initiative (CDHI) was launched as a University of Toronto Institutional Strategic Initiative to enable trans-disciplinary collaborations that emphasize questions of power, social justice, and critical theory in digital humanities research. Its vision is to harness the tools of the digital revolution to forge a new paradigm of critical humanities scholarship, one that bridges thehumanities’ emphasis on power and culture in historical perspective with the tools and analysis of digital technology. The CDHI is a new mix of research workshop and design atelier, equipping humanities researchers with the technical and design expertise to use digital tools to ask new questions, share new knowledge, and analyze power and inequality in a historical perspective.

Reporting to the Faculty Director, the Managing Director – CDHI, as the senior administrative member of the CDHI team, will play a pivotal leadership role in the strategic development and management of the initiative. The Program Lead will ensure oversight of CDHI’s staff and resources on a daily basis; oversee the planning and delivery of CDHI initiatives; implement and evaluate strategic short- and long-term plans and projects that support the mission of the CDHI, including building a network of digital humanities scholars across the University’s three campuses, amplifying research and translation impact, establishing programming to support innovative digital humanities training opportunities, and establishing a sustainability plan for the CDHI. The Managing Director is a strategic partner and key advisor to the faculty Director, and advocates for theneeds of digital humanities students, faculty, and staff amongst the wider University and external communities.

Your responsibilities will include:
Researching and recommending new opportunities for collaborations and partnerships; cultivating ongoing, high profile prospective partnerships that advance strategic initiatives

Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting; leading on discrete projects such as workshops and speaker series

Fiscal management of research funds, including preparing financial reports

Developing and managing fellowship/training calls, adjudications, finances, and reporting

Supervising the creation of communications plans, implementation, and reporting

Developing quarterly and annual reporting for internal and external stakeholders (both narrative and fiscal); gathering reporting elements/metrics from CDHI members

Communicating and representing the CDHI internally to other research leaders, divisions, and departments, and externally to the Advisory Board and other DH research centres

Directing the activities of a small group of staff-appointed employees

Essential Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in humanities and engagement with digital technologies or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.

Six to seven years of experience directing and leading a significant research portfolio, preferably in a complex and culturally diverse research environment in Higher Education.

Experience researching, writing, and publishing original research in a humanities field (examples: articles, books, research oriented digital projects) required.

Demonstrated understanding of Digital Humanities research methods and objectives required.

Experience building relationships with and providing expert consultation to a wide variety of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organization required.

Experience in event organizing and delivery required.

Strong supervisory experience including the ability to inspire, motivate and mentor staff required.

Demonstrated strategic planning,change and project management skills.

Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.

Outstanding time management skills and the proven ability to effectively delegate and supervise teams with varying levels of experience and skill.

Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and project management software.

Highly developed problem-solving, judgement, and critical thinking skills.

Strong strategic and financial planning and management skills.

Assets (Nonessential):

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 17 – $95,067 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $121,573. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
