        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Meal Centre Manager/Cook, he/she will sort produce and canned/packaged foods as we receive it. Will entail leading a group of various volunteers designated to help with this duty.

HOURS:

  • On-call/casual

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties:

  • Processes raw materials by unloading, sorting, packing, storing, loading and baling the donations; protects the integrity of the donations
  • Selects donations for store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded and good quality merchandise according to company standards
  • Meets assigned daily targets; counts, weighs and records incoming and outgoing donations
  • Complies with all safety procedures and in/outdoor tidy maintenance guidelines
  • Operates warehouse equipment such as baler, compactor, forklift and conveyor

Daily duties will include:

  • Sorting produce/dairy/juice etc. as it arrives from donators for distribution to other facilities.
  • Bringing up the groceries specified by the food service personnel to the Meal Centre.
  • Responsible to break down cardboard and place in recycle dumpster, and remove take resulting garbage to the correct recycling bins.
  • Sort dry goods coming in behind the fenced area in the basement. Goods will be sorted for food hamper supplies, school lunch program, specialty items, juice, pastas, cereals, Christmas hampers, etc. A separate list will be supplied, and may change from time to time depending on programs removed, or added, to the Centre of Hope.
  • Sort new nonfood items onto pallets. Toys on one, other new products onto another pallet marking boxes with felt pen for Christmas hamper room.
  • Keep hamper room sorted and clean and taking excess supplies to the designated areas in the basement. Make base hamper boxes in hamper dry storage room.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:

  • Up to three months of prior related experience including, experience with warehouse processing or goods distribution and knowledge of lifting guidelines are an asset.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:

  • The performance of the job requires frequently sitting for long periods of time, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting and kneeling.

CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires frequent safety awareness and sorting of donations

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:

The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate risk of injury or illnesses due to:

  • Physical attacks by others
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals
  • Moving objects
  • Sharp objects
  • Exposure to bodily fluids
  • Risk of back injuries

Other potentially dangerous situations (i.e. unsafe donations)

  • Has Foodsafe Certificate Level 1 or willing to get the training when available.
