The Burnaby Village Museum is in search of a Museum Registrar to work in an auxiliary capacity, specifically supporting a research project on the historic contributions and contemporary presence of South Asian families and people within Burnaby. This role involves a variety of work related to research, identification and development of exhibits related to South Asian heritage. By actively seeking out and pursuing new sources on this theme, you will compile historic records and objects from community donors, and present the information to internal and external stakeholders. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, supplemented by university courses related to the work. Courses in Anthropology, South Asian studies, or History would be considered an asset. An incumbent should have some related experience in research and collections work in a museum, art gallery, library or similar institution; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to use computer programs, compose routine letters and correspondence, to use digital cameras and related equipment is required, along with skill in handling artifacts. Proficiency in South Asian languages, such as Hindi or Punjabi would be an asset. Driver’s License for the province of British Columbia is required.
