The Government Relations Office Assistant provides a wide range of administrative services for Government Relations and External Relations staff and activities. This position schedules appointments and maintains the Calendars and responds to requests for information. The role is responsible for handling routine and wide-ranging problems; administrative support for the planning, development, evaluation, and maintenance of a variety of Government Relations initiatives and serves as the administrative point of contact for the Government Relations office and provides logistical support for Government Relations meetings and events, administration of the Government Relations budget and special project funds.
Qualifications:
- High school graduation and two years of post-secondary education or formal certificate/diploma program equivalent, including training in word processing, accounting, excel, database, spreadsheet, and presentation applications; bookkeeping; and office administration practices.
- 3 years minimum experience.
- An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study ad experience is acceptable.
- Excellent knowledge of standard office practices, methods, and equipment
- Excellent knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and composition.
- Broad knowledge of provincial, federal, municipal and first nations government policies, procedures and governance structures.
- 60 wpm keyboarding skill with high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills.
- Superior organization skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Ability to use word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, web and communication applications (e.g., Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Explorer, Outlook, Calendaring) at an advanced level.
- Ability to use enterprise level information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, SAP or equivalent) at an intermediate level.
- Ability to use a web-based project management system.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, and exercise mature judgement, tact and discretion.
- Ability to exercise a high degree of mature judgement and initiative.
- Ability to exercise a high degree of tact and discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to effectively and accurately communicate information to others.
- Ability to compose correspondence.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to take and transcribe meeting minutes with accuracy.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to provide instructions and direction to others.
