As an Operations Manager, you will be accountable for staff performance management, driver management, utilization, and business profitability. You will also lead the charge in upholding corporate policies, procedures, direction, and culture. This must be accomplished through effective written and oral communication, cultivation of relationships both internal and external, and providing leadership, supervision, and support.
Specific responsibilities include:
Provide structure, developmental opportunities, tools and training to new and existing staff, including company drivers and owner operators
Evaluate Eastern drivers’ performance indicators to build and lead operational strategies towards short- and long-term business growth
Manage Bison’s fleet of equipment through the development, monitoring, and enforcement of programs involving utilization. Monitor empty miles to ensure Bison is not crossing empties or ineffectively planning drivers while increasing miles per truck
Monitor East Region LOS on a daily basis. Formulate relevant corrective action plans to improve service
Understand traffic flows to generate freight volumes and develop strategies to meet balance goals
Proactively identify planning issues and concerns, and constructively react to those that cannot be foreseen
Research, compile, develop, and present reports in all areas of responsibility as required internally and for regulatory reporting purposes
Manage customer escalations and build operational plans for customers and drivers
Daily communication, training, and ongoing development of working relationship with Eastern Operations staff. Responsible for Operations success within and outside of the Eastern Region, as well on individual performance goals
Interface with HR and Driver Recruitment to provide input on staff hiring/rehiring decisions
Engage in other projects and activities as is necessary to the position and as assigned by the VP, Eastern Operations
Our Ideal Candidate will possess:
Previous leadership experience is required
Firm understanding of, and the ability to, implement Bison Transport’s policy, procedure, objective and culture
Excellent human resource skills: coaching, mentoring, performance management
Progressive knowledge of the transportation industry including competition and trends
Strong communication skills: excellent oral, written and presentation skills, as well as adult learning
Strong organizational skills: time management, project planning, multi-tasking
Experience and knowledge of safety and compliance issues, as they pertain to road transportation
