Description
The Digital/Media Worker provides leadership and support to the digital and media needs and programs in accordance with Salvation Army mission, values, and standards. The incumbent also ensures that resources of the department are being used to their greatest potential in the implementation of The Salvation Army’s mission.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
- Ensure the ministry objectives are consistently accomplished.
- Ensure that all duties are completed in accordance with the principles, standards, policies, and procedures of The Salvation Army.
- Assist with all local fundraising initiatives using social media platforms.
- Oversee the production of weekly worship services to be posted online.
- Monitor and respond to enquiries from public on social media platforms.
- Update website regularly to keep it current, ensuring AODA compliance.
- In consultation with the Corps Officer, assist with the planning and installation of required audio/video systems to accomplish the ministry objectives.
- Report any safety hazards, maintenance concerns or problems, equipment, or supply needs to the Property Manager.
- Ensure a professional rapport in all dealings with other members of the Leadership Team, staff, volunteers, and other agencies.
Program
- Monitor and respond to social media interactions between Peterborough Temple and the public.
- Train and coordinate volunteers to assist with technological components of Sunday Worship.
- Produce weekly worship service content to be posted to the Temple’s YouTube platform.
- In consultation with Corps Officer, expand ministry presence online through other platforms.
Human Resources
- Provide ongoing, consistent coaching, performance feedback, and manage the evaluation of volunteers ensuring that they work together to achieve the purpose of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army.
Health and Safety
- Ensure safety of volunteers.
- Responsible to maintain a level of competency and understand Sections 25 and 26 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Ensure that the measures and procedures prescribed (OH&SA) are carried out in the workplace and that every reasonable precaution is taken for the protection of the worker and workplace.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Administration and Finance
- Maintain accurate confidential written records, logs of activities, including statistical information, and data.
- Prepare, analyze, submit, and act on incident reports; maintain records of all reports and dealing with complaints effectively and in a timely manner.
- Act as an effective steward of resources when purchasing equipment and organizing quotes for such, in consultation with the corps officer.
Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Minimum of a Community College Diploma with a concentration in Public Relations or Communications is strongly preferred
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum 2-to-3-year college diploma in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or other related discipline.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media best practices
- Proven ability to manage multiple social media accounts with creativity and accuracy
- Good understanding of social media KPIs
- Excellent working knowledge and experience in various software and reporting tools such as Microsoft Office, WordPress, Hootsuite, and an ability to quickly learn new applications
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere) is an asset.
- Knowledge of computers and software programs required for live, streamed, recorded, and published content, including copyright compliance for all materials used
- Demonstrated proficiency in production of on-line content.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance
- Excellent organizational, planning, communication, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is required, Word and Excel etc., along with social media platforms, Adobe Premiere Suite, Easy Worship, or the like, etc.
- Familiarity and experience with related technology (tablets, A/V equipment, multimedia & tablet operating system software, social media platforms, online streaming, etc.)
- Ability to troubleshoot common network connectivity issues; both in-person and remotely via telephone as required.
- Ability to provide clear instruction and trouble-shooting directions for routine-to-moderate complexity issues for users with limited technological experience.
- Quick learner who will seek and take training pertaining to media outside of original skillset
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
- Self-motivated/disciplined.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, motivational, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain a team environment; work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals and resolve problems.
- Attentive listening skills for the purpose of supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Some travel is associated with this position
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually
HOURS: 15 to 20 hours per week. Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – weekend and evening work may be required.
