We require a qualified individual to teach in Introduction to Aircraft Aerodynamics and Performance this Fall semester (September to December). The course content introduces a broad range of aerodynamic concepts including estimating the performance of a variety of aircraft, characteristics of the atmosphere, and basic aspects of applied mechanics to determine forces acting on the aircraft (both in the air and on the ground), the effect of propulsion method, wing loading, and centre of gravity on aircraft performance.
Candidates must be able to teach three hours weekly during the day, or early evening. We anticipate that this course will be taught through remote delivery. While teaching assignments may include online delivery, this position is governed by the applicable legislation of the Province of Ontario and successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and will be available to work on campus as required on a temporary or ongoing basis.
Responsibilities:
Ensure student awareness of course objectives, instructional approach, and evaluation systems
Carry out regularly scheduled instruction according to the format prescribed for the course, including as appropriate, online, classroom, computer-assisted lab lessons, teacher-led, and other instructional techniques
Evaluate student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required
Create and maintain a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles
Support students in the use of the Learning Management System (D2L), as well as maintaining course materials within this system
Collaborate and build relations with other program faculty
Qualifications:
Subject matter expertise is required
An aviation background is considered an asset
Experience teaching or mentoring adult learners either in a formal educational setting or in the workplace; post-secondary teaching experience would be considered an asset
Possess the ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of learners
Ability to work independently and in groups
Experience, or willingness to teach, especially theoretical concepts through an online learning management platform (D2L / eConestoga)
Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
