        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sort incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Cornwall Thrift Store.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations:

  • Opening and closing the store
  • Accurate completion of all customer transactions including cash and debit sales
  • Contribute to meeting store budgets by maintaining customer service standards
  • Assist with store layout plans to attract customer, which include window displays and merchandise displays
  • Ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance”
  • Replenish inventory levels based on managers directions
  • Contribute to the control of inventory by receiving, sorting, and pricing as per directions
  • Select donations for store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded and good quality merchandise according to company standards; ensure that all products are priced correctly as per store policy
  • Process donated items by unloading, sorting, and packing, storing, loading, and bailing the donations protects the integrity of the donations
  • Assist donors with their donations, unload donations and place stock in appropriate locations
  • Be knowledgeable regarding product pricing and featured sale products
  • Pay attention to store security, by monitoring activity in the store
  • Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g., snow removal, clear fire exits and clean spillage)
  • Work as a productive team member and independently when necessary
  • Direct volunteer work assignments in the store

Communications:

  • Inform your supervisor of all customer complaints, comments and concerns regarding customer service, prices, merchandise, etc.

Health and Safety:

  • Complete janitorial duties i.e., cleaning floors, washrooms, etc. as needed
  • Ensure the Thrift Store is maintained regarding appearance, condition and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
  • Seek out continual education and resources for all areas of responsibilities, specifically regarding COVID-19 requirements as per the local Health Unit
  • Ensure the safety and comfort of the ministry unit by maintaining cleanliness and safety etc.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of secondary school
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 months experience including warehouse and stocking procedures
  • Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience in warehouse processing or goods distribution and knowledge of lifting guidelines

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Some related experience in warehouse processing or goods distribution would be a definite asset
  • Cash handling experience is required
  • Basic math skills required to calculate discounts and percentages as well as reading skills
  • Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
  • Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 25 pounds
  • Maintain information in confidence as required
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner
  • Brand awareness would be an asset
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority
  • Self-motivated/disciplined
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a positive manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear criminal record check
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 22.5 hours per week
