WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
- Understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army
- An original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured through either the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or a local police detachment.
Normal hours of work – may vary as per operational requirements and responsibilities, and includes a ½ hour paid meal break where applicable.

Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- General
- Reports and is accountable to the Program Services Manager – Community and Family Services
- Administrative
- To complete all job related duties in accordance with the standards, policies and procedures of The Salvation Army Centre of Hope
- As required and as applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to the Community and Family Services Program Services Manager
- Assist in the orientation, training and direction of warehouse volunteers
- Provide support to community projects and events as requested by Community and Family Services Program Services Manager or Program
- Warehouse
- In Coordination with the Food Distribution Worker:
- Ensure the warehouse and all Community Services/food bank storage areas are organized, clean and safe at all times
- Maintain adequate inventory, reporting any surplus or deficiency to the Program Services Manager
- Ensure all products are handled, stored and used appropriately, ensuring older product is used first
- Monitor freezer and refrigerator on a daily basis; record temperatures and report any concerns to the Maintenance Coordinator and Community and Family Services Program Services Manager
- Coordinate unloading of incoming product with Maintenance Coordinator, Food Distribution Worker and food bank staff / volunteers; Report any damaged goods on arrival
- Provide regular updates to the Program Services Manager or designate regarding warehouse activities
- Provide regular updates to the Community and Family Services Workers regarding new or excess items to be distributed through the food bank
- In coordination with the Food Distribution Worker oversee volunteers in the warehouse, ensuring Health and Safety rules are followed
- Pick-Ups/Deliveries
- Coordinate pick-up and delivery schedule with Program Coordinator
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community donors
- Maintain accurate and complete records of pick-ups
- Load, unload and move products and materials by hand or with basic material handling equipment
- Ensure products in delivery vehicle are stored safely and securely
- Vehicle Maintenance
- Complete routine vehicle checks before all trips
- Maintain accurate and complete driver trip logs
- Monitor and report any maintenance and repairs of vehicles to the Maintenance Coordinator
- Responsible for ensuring cleanliness of program vehicles
- Health and Safety
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Work closely with security, identifying any safety and security needs

- Responsible to use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer

- Responsible to report workplace injuries or illness
- Perform other position related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Valid Class G driver’s license with clean driving record (Driver’s Abstract is required)
- Good command of large vehicles (i.e. cube van, panel van)
- Forklift certification or willingness and ability to be trained to operate forklift
- First Aid/CPR and NVCI training
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Ability to operate pallet jack and other warehouse equipment
- Experience in shipping and handling
Skills and Capabilities:
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Punctual, self-motivated and disciplined
- Polite customer service
- Physical ability to handle/lift large/heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and to stand for long periods of time
