Temporary Full-time

The Planning and Development Department is looking for a temporary full-time Plan Checker 2 (Building Official – Level 3) to join their team for approximately two (2) years.
You will be responsible for the plan review and issuance of larger more complex commercial, industrial, apartment and other residential buildings, including mixed-use high-rise and upgrades for additions/change of major occupancy in existing buildings, to ensure compliance with the provincial building codes and municipal regulations/bylaws. You will discuss plans, proposed projects and non-conformance issues with various stakeholders to clarify problem areas and to explain BC Building Code, Energy Step Code, City regulations and by-laws. You will also provide guidance and training to plan checking (building official) staff and assistance to stakeholders as required. In addition, you may from time to time conduct inspections of non-complex permitted work to ensure conformity with City by-laws.
You will be BOABC Level III “Qualified” for Building Officials and hold a Diploma of Technology in Building, or a related discipline, plus considerable related experience in municipal plan checking and/or in the building construction industry. Strong knowledge of related bylaws, acts, and regulations; the ability to read plans, surveys, and related material and a Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License are also required. Computer literacy in MS Excel and MS Word will be considered an asset.
For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
Salary:
$39.50 to 46.64 per hour
(Pay Grade 25 – January 2021 rates)
Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every 3-week scheduling cycle.
