This is operational and building service work performed in a multi-use aquatic facility. An incumbent checks, adjusts and operates a variety of equipment necessary to ensure the water quality and effective operation of the facility; performs routine inspection and maintenance of filtration systems, boilers and related pool equipment; records gauge readings and reports malfunctions to a supervisor; performs janitorial and custodial duties; performs minor repair and servicing on building, equipment, locker locks and facilities, as required. Sets up tables and chairs and other furniture for schedule events or activities in the facility; removes on completion. Collects and disposes of recycling and garbage. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical training and sound related experience in the operation and maintenance of aquatic facility equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of operating procedures of water heating, boiling, filtration and chlorination equipment, and the methods, practices and materials used in the operation of aquatic facilities. Sound knowledge of applicable occupational hazards and safety precautions. Working knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems applicable to the operation of aquatic facilities and equipment. Some knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in building maintenance and minor repair tasks. Ability to operate, maintain and make minor repairs to equipment typically used in aquatic facilities; to understand and follow routine oral and written instructions; to work with minimal supervision; and to deal courteously with staff, patrons and user groups, and to deal tactfully and firmly with same in ensuring observance of facility policies and procedures. Skill in the use of and care of a variety of tools and equipment used in the work.
