President & Chief Executive Officer – Wellington Health Care Alliance

Our Client, Wellington Health Care Alliance (WHCA), is seeking their next President & Chief Executive Officer. WHCA comprises three rural acute care hospitals:

Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) in Fergus and North Wellington Health Care (NWHC) with hospital sites in Mount Forest (Louise Marshall Hospital – LMH) and Palmerston (Palmerston and District Hospital – PDH). Each hospital site provides a comprehensive range of surgical, inpatient and outpatient services, including 24-7 emergency and obstetrical care.

Together, WHCA has approximately 700 staff and 200 credentialed professional staff, and an annual budget of $59 million. Both GMCH and NWHC have a dedicated group of volunteers and benefit from the exceptional support of their three Foundations.

GMCH opened a new 45-bed greenfield hospital in 2020. NWHC operates 30 beds across its two hospital sites and is nearing completion of a $25 million emergency and ambulatory care expansion at the LMH site. In addition to a comprehensive offering of diagnostic services at each site, there are several other programs offered to support the communities served, including Oncology and Dialysis in partnership with Grand River Hospital. WHCA has partnered with Guelph General Hospital in support of a shared health information system and are partners in an Ontario Health Team serving the residents of Guelph-Wellington.

The ideal candidate will be an inspiring and empowering leader and influential communicator who understands and has a strong appreciation for the importance of rural health care. Bringing a high degree of executive leadership insight, creativity, and enthusiasm for the mandate of the WHCA, the successful candidate will be a results-oriented leader with a bias to action and will be known for having the ability to leverage resources, set priorities, and negotiate solutions to complex problems.

Candidates will possess experience in a senior leadership capacity in a healthcare setting ideally combined with a postgraduate degree in business or administration and demonstrated experience in developing an organization culture that engages staff, physicians, stakeholders, patients, and the community as owners and beneficiaries of organizational performance and outcomes.

Wellington County is conveniently located in beautiful Southwestern Ontario, with the picturesque towns of Fergus and Elora, Mount Forest, Drayton, and Palmerston which offer an ideal lifestyle nestled in an active rural setting with close proximity to major urban areas.
