Reporting to the Head of Market Access, the Private Payers Associate Director will be a member of the Canadian Market Access Team and will be responsible for developing and executing market access strategies for marketed and pipeline medicines. The position will be heavily externally focused and will require the incumbent to build credible relationships with private payer stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Market Access
Be the expert on all topics related to market access and private payers.
Communicate clinical and economic value messages to support rapid and broad access to Vertex medicines, including leading the engagement and management of product listing agreements with private payers.
Work in close partnership with country colleagues and external consultants (when necessary) to prepare reimbursement submissions to meet private payer submission requirements. Lead the development and approval of dossiers in-line with payer requirements for all payers across Canada.
Be the company lead for the Private Payer Industry group.
Monitor and interpret current and potential future reimbursement environment trends to inform access strategies and shape policy.
General
The position will work closely with Vertex’s medical affairs, legal, regulatory, market access and commercial teams, building and leveraging relationships with relevant stakeholders in line with Vertex’s approved and agreed business strategy.
Work closely with legal and regulatory departments to ensure compliance.
Ability to travel to customer meetings and head office as required.
Manage all private contracts and listing agreements.
Leverage relationships with private payer stakeholder to optimize access strategies.
Provide marketplace feedback in a timely manner to management, on customer business trends, competitive updates and industry issues and opportunities.

Qualifications:
A Bachelors and/or advanced degree in one or more of the following areas: health economics, public health, epidemiology/ biostatistics, medicine, engineering, business administration, law, government or public policy from an accredited university required.
Pharmaceutical/healthcare industry experience with experience in market access and a customer facing role.
In-depth and current understanding of payer environment, including reimbursement decision-making processes, pricing and contracting strategies, and HTA processes.
Outstanding customer relationship, interpersonal, and communication skills with the established ability to effectively work with diverse audiences and influence cross functionally.
Strong experience developing, influencing and negotiating with payer stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills, strong oral/written presentation skills.
Strong analytical skills and financial acumen with the proven ability to effectively analyze data sets to determine trends and establish strategies.
An entrepreneurial spirit and ability to develop and willingness to pilot creative solutions to complex problems.
Display solid ethics and fully comply with all regulatory, legal and industry codes of conduct.
Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to complete projects and achieve goals on time while delivering high quality results.
