Production Supervisor

We currently have an opening for a Production Supervisor on the afternoon shift (2:00pm to 11:30pm) at our Waterloo facility located at 35 Northland Road.

Production Supervisors ensure that production of product meets or exceeds efficiency and company quality standards. In addition, the Production Supervisor ensures that facilities and processes conform to GMP and HACCP standards designated by the Quality Manager. They train and monitor the employees on their lines and ensure a safe work environment for the workers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up the equipment and area on their assigned line each day in accordance with equipment schedule
  • Supervises employees in the blending, raw production and packaging of frozen products on their line or area to ensure safety, quality and productivity. Supervises lead hands, line operators and GL’s on their line.
  • Implements product specifications and makes adjustments as necessary to produce products within specifications.
  • Coordinates and develops liaisons with other departments
  • Verifies process sheets containing instructions for all employees
  • Verifies labour sheets at end of shift for accuracy
  • Monitors quality of finished products by reviewing data and physical inspection.
  • Develops and recommends improvements to facilities, equipment or processes to improve safety, quality and efficiency.
  • Trains workers in their area of supervision, coaches/mentors employees, promotes communication between management and front line personnel
  • Oversees and/ or conducts job specific safety training and job training for new and existing production employees and temporary workers. Provides required paperwork to HR for training files.
  • Monitors usage of utilities to ensure efficient operations.
  • Accountable for production costs, labour utilization, yields, results of operation, cost improvement initiatives on their lines each day
  • Train, counsel, provide leadership, direction and performance reviews and develop production employees
  • Communicate job performance standards to subordinates
  • Provide timely and consistent feedback, coach and motivate associates to exceed expectations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • Highly mechanically inclined with a basic understanding of hydraulics, electricity, and machine operation, and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent mathematical and mechanical skills
  • Exceptional people skills, ability to handle stress in a productive manner, multitask and detail oriented
  • Ability to make decisions, handle conflict in a productive and professional manner, multitasker and detail oriented
  • Strong supervisory/managerial and training/mentoring skills to achieve collaboration and teamwork as well as discipline of production employees

Education:

  • Preferably have post-secondary education in food manufacturing studies. On the job training is provided.

Experience:

  • Preferably 3 year’s experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a food manufacturing facility
  • Experience in growing and developing a team with positive people
  • The ability to identify and address deficiencies in the manufacturing process
